MEDIA RELEASE - Overland Flooding

UPDATE: May 4, 2018 – 1800 hrs

 

** IMPORTANT** Public Safety Announcement

Overland Drainage has left a number of damaged roads throughout the municipality and a number of hazards that threaten public and personal safety.

Barricades are in place for your safety please do not move or alter them, violators can be charged by the RCMP.

Flooded Water Wells and Cisterns should be treated as contaminated and unsafe for consumption and or use.

 

STATUS:

Our SOLE will remain in effect until emergency pumping and critical road closures cease.

Our Emergency Operations Center (EOC) has been stood down.  The M.D of Taber will remain in contact with all of its partnering agencies through our daily email communication.

As conditions change we recommend that residents stay tuned to local media and MD of Taber Website for updates.

 

OPERATIONS:

Roadways that have been damaged are being evaluated for condition and preparation for repair.

Roadways are being repaired and opened as work is completed.

An estimated 80 Miles of Road remain barricaded and closed.

Road Closures can be viewed using our Web Map Application that will highlight roads that remain closed throughout the MD of Taber.


GENERAL INFORMATION:

Landowners are requested to not increase water flows by unnecessary pumping or excavation. Additional volumes of water pumped into roadways will threaten neighbouring lands and residential properties as well as threaten irrigation and municipal infrastructure.

In order to pump excess water from fields into any irrigation infrastructure you are required to contact the Irrigation Districts for their approval.  

Residential property owners who have suffered property damage are advised to contact their insurers. Resources on insurance issues may be found at the following link: Insurance Bureau of Canada www.ibc.ca/ab

Citizens are invited to contact the MD of Taber Administration Office at 403-223-3541 to report new or rapidly changing overland flooding conditions.
