Development and Subdivision applications that are brought to the Municipal District of Taber are handled though two clearly defined processes. The information presented below is focused on preparing appliacants for submitting either a development or subdivision application.
Information Related to Submitting An Application for Development
We invite all applicants to stop into our main office at 4900B-50th Street, Taber to sit down and discuss the information that is needed to complete an application for development.
Information Required to Complete Development Application:
- General Personal Information (Applicant and Registered Owner)
- Details of Develpment Site
- Details of Existing Development
- Details of Proposed Development (Including Floor Plan)
- Details of Landscaping
- Details of Vehicle Parking and Access
- Details of Exterior Building Finish
- Details of Services (Available and Required)
- Dates for Commencement and Completion
Once an application is completed applications go to the Subdivision and Development Authority that is made up of five elected members of council. Subdivision and Development Authority will either conditionally approve or decline the application as the board deems appropriate. These decisions are appealable and all appeals for development are heard by a separate board made up of elected and rate-payers at large (two elected and three appointed). All developments are listed in local newspapers as well as in the announcements section of our website as a Development Notice. Appeals must be made within 14 days of being notified.
Application for Home Occupation Developments are treated the same as a general developments and are submitted on the same form.

Information Related to Submitting An Application for Subdivison
Subdivision applications can be handled during the initial stages at the M.D. of Taber main office at 4900B-50th Street, Taber. Staff members will assist applicants in preparing their applications and usually direct them to the Oldman River Regional Services Commission in Lethbridge where all subdivision applications are processed. Oldman River Regional Services Commission are under contract to the M.D. to provide professional planning services.
To Process a Subdivision Application Oldman River Regional Services Commission Requires:
- Application Forms Completed and Signed
- Subdivision Fees (Non-Refundable)
- Diagram (Drawn to Scale)
- Copy of a Recent Certificate of Title (Within 30 Days)
