Dust Suppression Program
Did you know that the Municipal District of Taber operates a dust suppression program?
In 2019 we applied dust suppression product for 176 residences totaling over 32 kilometers!
We also use this product as a stabilizing agent strategically at certain intersections, roadways and on hills to help prevent washboard roads and loss of gravel.
Some frequently asked questions include:
What exactly is this dust suppression product?
The municipality uses a product called MG 30, it is a blend of calcium chloride and magnesium hydroxide solution. It not only suppresses dust, but it also helps to bind the aggregate into the roadway, which in turn creates a hardened road surface.
I used to have oil in front of my house to control dust, is that an option?
The municipality has migrated away from oil in front of residences as these sections of roadway become difficult to maintain and can become a hazard from pot-holing. Applied MG 30 dust suppressant is a product that can be maintained through grading intervals when required and costs much less!
How much does it cost and how can I get some?
Currently the municipality charges $1.25 per linear foot up to 750 feet. Minimum length of roadway treatment is 400 feet and an overage fee is charged after 750 feet.
