ABOUT THE INITIATIVE
The Municipal District of Taber is updating rural addresses within the Hays Block to improve emergency response and public safety. This initiative aligns with Next Generation 911 (NG911) standards set by the National Emergency Number Association (NENA), which help emergency services accurately locate properties during critical situations.
After a thorough review, 109 addresses in the Hays Block were identified as being impacted by the NENA standards. These addresses will be reissued to comply with the updated requirements. This change will:
- Enhance emergency response times
- Improve accuracy and consistency in location data
- Support future upgrades to 911 services
WHAT TO EXPECT

DO I NEED TO TAKE ACTION?
Yes. While the MD of Taber is coordinating with key service providers to minimize disruption—including notifying Canada Post, utility companies, and emergency services—landowners are encouraged to take proactive steps.
STEP 1: Confirm Utility Contact
- Check if your utility provider is listed below as one that has been contacted by the MD of Taber.
- Speak directly with your utility representatives to confirm.
- If you are a service provider, please reach out to the MD of Taber to inquire about the Hays Block Re-addressing initiative.
Utility Companies Contacted by the MD of Taber:
STEP 2: Verify Your Service Address
- Contact your utility companies to confirm your service address (note: this is different from your mailing address).
- Ensure that your service address matches your new address, effective February 28th.
Please note
Private companies and agencies may update their records at different intervals. While the Municipal District of Taber has made every effort to notify these organizations, it is ultimately the landowner’s responsibility to follow up if their service address has not been updated.
STEP 3: Update Your Personal Records
- Update any documents that use your home address, such as:
- Driver’s license and vehicle registration
- Banking and financial institutions
- Insurance policies
- Any other official records
Here is an additional list of agencies you may wish to contact for consideration:
- Electricity and Natural Gas Providers
- Water and Wastewater Services
- Telecommunications and Internet Providers (e.g., Shaw, Bell)
- Alberta Land Titles Office
- Insurance Companies
- Financial Institutions (e.g., banks, credit unions)
- Legal Representatives (e.g., lawyers, notaries)

We appreciate your cooperation as we work to improve safety and service delivery across our community.
