- Provincial Statutes: public safety and traffic-related concerns such as unsafe and excessive speeding and other traffic violations

Animal Control
The Municipal District of Taber is committed to promoting safe, respectful, and responsible pet ownership across our communities. To support this, our Community Standards Officers oversee animal control in accordance with the MD of Taber’s Responsible Dog Ownership Bylaw No. 1998.
These officers are responsible for:
- Capturing and impounding dogs found running at large within the MD of Taber.
- Educating and enforcing provisions of the Responsible Dog Ownership Bylaw and applicable provincial or federal statutes.
- Responding to reasonable and probable complaints of bylaw infractions, including nuisance behaviours or safety concerns.
- Managing and coordinating with the MD’s designated Animal Control Facility, which provides safe and secure impoundment when required.
Community Standards Officers are authorized to enter land surrounding buildings when pursuing dogs observed running at large. It is an offence to obstruct, hinder, or impede an officer or Animal Control Facility Operator in the course of carrying out their duties.
Enforcement approach
The MD of Taber enforces the Responsible Dog Ownership Bylaw based on signed, written complaints or other prescribed reporting methods. While proactive enforcement is limited by available resources, every effort is made to address concerns promptly and fairly.
For lost or found dogs, or to report animal-related concerns, contact the Community Standards Officer at 403‑223‑4784 or learn about our voluntary dog licensing program or what to do if your dog is found at large and impounded.
