Important update from the Highway 3 Regional Water Services Commission

UPDATE #2: Friday, August 2, 2024

We are happy to report that the issue has been resolved. We thank you for your patience and understanding as we worked to resolve the issue.

– – –

On July 22nd, Commission staff detected water discolouration during routine testing. Commission staff promptly investigated and changed the raw water supply source. Additional testing in Bow Island and at the treatment plant confirmed the issue. Adjustments were made at the plant, and daily testing now shows reduced discolouration.

To further address this issue, the Town of Bow Island began flushing mains within town limits, and Commission staff commenced flushing the regional transmission main to the Hamlet of Grassy Lake.

The issue has been reported to Alberta Environment. Tests indicate increased manganese levels, likely due to the raw water source transition on July 22nd. The plant has reverted to the original water source until further testing confirms the issue.

The water continues to meet the Guidelines for Canadian Drinking Water Quality, environmental, and safety standards for drinking water and is safe to drink.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to resolve this issue.
