Learn Before You Burn
Cleaning up your yard, farm, or worksite?
While open burning can be an effective way to dispose of certain debris, burning prohibited materials is illegal under Alberta's Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act.
Materials that can be burned include:
- Brush and fallen trees
- Straw, stubble, grass, weeds, leaves, and tree prunings
- Untreated wood and wood products
- Solid waste from tree harvesting
Materials that cannot be burned include:
- Construction waste
- Plastics and baler twine
- Rubber and tires
- Oil
- Treated or preserved wood
- Animal manure
- Chemical and pesticide containers
Burning prohibited materials can release harmful pollutants, create unpleasant odours, reduce visibility, and contaminate the environment.
If you're unsure whether a material can be burned, visit https://mdtaber.ab.ca/p/fire-permit or contact Regional Fire Services before lighting the match.
Please burn responsibly and help keep our community safe.
