Taber Police Service charge former employee with fraud over $5000
The Municipal District of Taber (MDT) became aware of the incident referenced by the TPS in September 2023. Shortly thereafter, the matter was reported to the TPS for a formal investigation.
From Chief Administrative Officer Arlos Crofts:
"Regarding the Taber Police Service’s recent announcement, it is crucial to underscore the proactive response. The Municipal District of Taber continues to implement more stringent safeguards and processes. We are confident that these measures will augment the integrity of our financial controls."
Reassuring the Public:
MDT Council and Administration continue to be diligent in enhancing financial controls and conducting external reviews and audits to safeguard municipal assets. These steps include:
- Implementing enhanced and targeted forensic audit exercises (including allocating resources for an organisational Fraud Risk Management assessment).
- Establishing procedural and control improvements.
Commitment to Transparency and Accountability:
The MDT remains committed to working cooperatively with the TPS throughout this process and will continue to prioritize transparency and accountability.
As this matter is now before the courts, the MDT is limited in the details it can provide but will continue to keep the public informed as appropriate within the bounds of privacy legislation and ongoing legal proceedings.
